There is little new to report for the month, as the conditions in the Peruvian ports with regard to plagueremain about the same. The number of cases has not shown any diminution and infection in the different centers must be considered as severe as during the preceding month. There has-been a slight increase in the number of cases of smallpox in Lima and one or two other places in Peru. Plague is officially reported as present in three places in Chile: Santiago, Taltal, and Antofagasta. The latter two report a number of cases of this disease. Concerning Guayaquil it may be stated that no appreciable change has taken place. The latest bills of health report eleven deaths a week from yellow fever, showing g that the town and surrounding country are generally infected.
