16 GENERAL SANITATION. CITY OF PANAMA. All branches of the work of. sanitation are progressing satisfactorily, and mosquito destruction is receiving the attention its importance demands. Only 107 places were discovered where larvve existed, and it was not necessary to have anyone fined for persisting in breeding mosquitoes. The sanitation of yards by the owners and occupants of premises is improving. The general health of the community is excellent. No acute contagious diseases, except pneumonia, and varicella were reported during the month. Referring to the mortality report for Panama, it will be noted that only 82 deaths occurred, of which 18 were due to consumption and 9 to pneumonia.a Thirty-three deaths were among the charity patients in Santo Tomas Hospital, and 49 occurred in The city proper.a The following is a summary of the work accomplished:.
