During the month the construction of the detention barracks at Colon was started, and minor improvements have been made around the detention house at Panama.
SANITATION IN ZONE.
Work has been carried on at twenty-two different points in the Zone between La Boca and Gatun; draining, ditching, filling, cutting and cleaning brush and grass, collecting and disposing of garbage and night soil, fumigating, street cleaning, covering and oiling water containers, digging night-soil pits, building water-closets, etc. Especial effort is being made to complete drainage work and to abolish all breeding places of mosquitoes before the rainy season sets in.
