SANITARY WORK IN PANAMA CITY.
[he street-cleaning work has been proceeding under rather trying circumstances, due to the tearing up of streets by the waterworks department. A good amount of work has been done, how ever. With a maximum of 50 men and a minimum of 24 men 1,055 loads of sweepings have been removed. The sweepings are being used to fill in the old gas tank at" Asilo de Bolivar,'" which was a breeding place for mosquitoes. 
The garbage collection has also been impeded by the condition of the streets.
Seven hundred and ninety-six loads of garbage bave been removed during the month with a force of 25 men and 7 carts. Yard cleaning has gone on steadily, and all yards in the western and northwestern sections have been cleaned thoroughly. Five hundred and fifty-six loads of yard dirt have been carted away with a force of 14 men and 4 carts.
Seven cases of, beriberi were sent to Ancon, and the houses from which they were removed were thoroughly cleaned and fumigated.
Between 20 and 30 cases were sent to Ancon Hospital during the month, and Santo Tomas Hospital was inspected 23 times.
