114 between global scores. Correlations were also performed between teachers' ratings. Comparisons were made of the whole group by grade, by sex, and by age. Results of the students' and parents' surveys were tabulated. Frequency and percentage distributions are displayed on these data. These results provide a profile of students' and parents' expressed beliefs about their language behavior and expected usage. Two Chi- square analyses of these data were also performed. The overwhelming amount of information which was gathered through participant observation and formal and informal interviews has been utilized to provide information in testing Hypotheses Two and Three. Initially, some of the data have been condensed and included into composite descriptions representative of a number of the partici pants. These descriptions are designed to enable the reader to visualize and understand these participants as people.
