Author: Published in: Boston Recorder Place of Publication: Boston, MA Publication Date: 6/23/1818 Important !We learn by the National Intelligencer which came to hand on Sunday, that private letters have been received at Washington, from Georgia, giving the highly important information of the capture of Pensacola by a General JACKSON, on the 21st May. Gen JACKSON is represented to have made certain requisitions, which not being complied with, he attacked the fortress and carried it BY STORM. No particulars are given of the loss on either site ; but if the place was taken in the manner above described, it may have been considerable. The intelligence appears to be authentic, and we await its details with no small degree of anxiety.Bost. Pat. A letter from Maj. General Jackson, dated at his camp before St. Marks, April 9th, to a gentleman in Kentucky, states as follows : " In the Muckasuky town, we discovered evidences of hostility for many years ; upwards of three hundred scalps were found ; about fifty were found suspended on a painted war pole, on the square, fresh, and of every description, from the tender infant to the aged mother."
